the Gelligaer 80th Anniversary Page
Yes, 2008 sees the 80th anniversary of the former Gelligaer UDC motor bus operations and one of the largest bus and coach gatherings seen in Wales for several years is planned for the 21 September.
This wonderful spectacular will take place on one of the largest open spaces suitable for this type of event, namely Parc Penallta in Ystrad Mynach with room for over three hundred buses !
This wonderful FREE to enter event will see a wide selection of historic, classic and modern buses and coaches suppoorted by several manufacturers and a large number of enthusiast stalls selling everything from former company bus stop flags, to books , models and of course expect to see millions of photos for sale.
There will be also a good selection of caterers in attendance as well as childrens entertainments to keep the little ones happy while dad counts rivets and stand frustrated with camera in hand waiting for Joe Bloggs to move away from the front of the only articulated Routemaster in captivity*.
There will also be a cavalcader limited to just 50 buses and preference given to Soputh wales municipals on this occasion, but there will also be a chance to ride on one of these classic vehicles as a series of local toursa are planned during the day.
